Tewkesbury Leisure Centre prepares to reopen on 3rd August 2020

Preparations are underway to reopen Tewkesbury Leisure Centre on Monday 3 August.

The leisure centre closed its doors on 20 March as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the teams from Places Leisure and Tewkesbury Borough Council have been busy taking advice from Public Health England, following Government guidelines, and consulting with the trade body ukactive to implement lots of new measures to help keep colleagues and customers safe, ready for when the centre reopens.

When visiting again from Monday 3 August, customers will notice more signage encouraging them to keep a safe distance from others. Some activities will restart, but at a reduced capacity, so it is essential to plan ahead and book online, by using the Places Locker app or by visiting placesleisure.org/centres/tewkesbury-leisure-centre

The Places Leisure team will implement enhanced cleaning regimes and customers will be advised to use the cleaning stations and hand santiser before beginning any activities or using any equipment. A handy new film has been produced to help customers prepare for the changes.

Matt Cotton, manager of Tewkesbury Leisure Centre said: “It’s exciting to be inviting customers back into the centre from 3 August. We are eager to help everyone back into their fitness routines in a safe and considered way. I would urge customers to visit our website before they arrive – it will list the new opening times, activities available and details of how customers can book onto each activity. We cannot wait to welcome our colleagues and customers back.”

Councillor Robert Vines, Tewkesbury Borough Council’s lead member for finance and asset management, said: “It will come as welcome news to many that the government is allowing indoor gyms and leisure facilities to reopen. Many people rely on the facilities at Tewkesbury Leisure Centre to not only improve their physical health but, as a result of fitness activities, their mental health is improved too. I hope customers will follow the advice on the website, the signage and any additional information given by the fantastic team at the leisure centre.”
